about

The original mix of Dearly Beloved was released alongside versions of another Black Sjuan cut called Afros in the Dark. This new outing features an unreleased version by Black Sjuan along with two remixes by Fresh Meat stalwart Mazi Namvar aka Audio Soul Project. Namvar uses the lion’s share of Black Sjuan’s vocals and strips things down to the beats, bass and keys for a Dub Version. Audio Soul Project relies heavily on swinging drums and a thick distorted 909 kick. Layers of synth stabs and subsonic bumps capture a dynamic vibe that is gritty and authentically Chicago. Black Sjuan’s version blends electric piano stabs with filtered down slap bass and compressed drum cadences that are equal parts deep house and slamming mid-set disco thumper. The package is completed with a moody and sauntering remix by South African producer Sir Nono. Nono weaves a unique tapestry, deploying sweeping chords, cacophonous piano, elegant swinging drums and a bass line that will rattle your shoes off. Good luck trying to figure out which version is your favorite!
